Feldur Hook was a Human Northron who had settled in Esgaroth with his family for several years during the late-Third Age. Married to Fran Hook, Feldur was the father of two unnamed sons. He had recently been working as a spy for Master Calamar Moneybags when he suspected that Bard Bowman had been planning treason against him, but none of this part was true. When Smaug had caused damage, Feldur and his family managed to flee from the devastation and resettle in Dale.

Biography[]

In TA 2941, the Spy along with his family, were hired by the Master of Lake-town to keep an eye on Bard when he was suspicious that he was behind the growing threat to his authority. When he saw Bard walk back to his home, the Spy slipped back his eyepatch and knocked on a door to alert his sons to signal his other partners.

Physical description[]

The spy wore a grey hood and robes, wore an eyepatch, and carried a stick to alert his sons to signal his other partners by knocking a door.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Feldur Hook was portrayed by Stephen Colbert in a cameo in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, along with his wife and two sons.
  • Colbert was a long-time fan of Tolkien's work and was able to read Elvish. In the beginning stages of him announcing to appear in a disclosed cameo, he originally thought that he was going to be in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey as an Elf with no dialogue, but he didn't get the role. But prior to the first film coming out, Colbert had interviewed Ian McKellen and Martin Freeman on his show and discussed and promoted the film, with both stars ending up seeing just how huge a Tolkien fan Colbert really was.
