Gandalf the Grey (simply known as Gandalf) is the tritagonist of The Hobbit trilogy.
He is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Thorin Oakenshield) of An Unexpected Journey, the tetragonist of The Desolation of Smaug, and the tritagonist of The Battle of the Five Armies.
He as one of the five Wizards sent to watch over Middle-earth and fight against the rising powers of evil. He joined Thorin and Company on their Quest of Erebor and hired Bilbo Bagggns as their burglar. He left them before they reached into Mirkwood, due to the growing threat of the enemy and was trapped by the Necromancer in Dol Guldur after Gandalf found out his true identity.
