Harbard was one of the Northrons that lived in the city of Dale during the Third Age. Living in Dale, he was the second son of Lord Girion and Lady Mika, making his the younger brother of Girnir. He fled the the destruction of Dale when Smaug caused havoc and took Erebor as his own kingdom, and fled to Esgaroth to seek refuge. During his time there, he eventually married Helga and the two would have a son named Bard, who would become famous and legendary hero for slaying the dragon Smaug.
