|Fate||Fails to kill Thorin Oakenshield due to the sight of Gandalf and left the Prancing Pony with the Squint|
|Eye color||Brown, missing right eye|
In TA 2940, Ferny was hired by Azog, along with the Squint to assassinate Thórin Oakenshield for a bounty to put out on his head. While the assassins travelled through the Greenway, they encountered the Wizard Gandalf (whom they gave their cloth the Orc gave them) and had mistaken him to be a vagabond.
Ferny and the Squint tracked down the Dwarf in the inn of the Prancing Pony in Bree and kept their eyes on him across each corner of the room and prepared to confront Thorin, but were unable to kill him due to the sight of the Wizard. When it was apparent that he was not going to leave, Ferny and his cohort thought of it better and later left the inn without incident at the time when Gandalf warned Thorin that someone was planning to murder him.
Behind the scenesEdit
- Ferny was portrayed by Dallas Barnett in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
- Due to his name credited as "Bill Ferny Snr.", he may have been the father of Bill Ferny, the Man of Bree who was a henchman of Saruman and tried to turn in Frodo Baggins to the Ringwraiths in the book version of The Fellowship of the Ring.
- In LEGO The Hobbit: The Video Game, Ferny and the Squint's attempt to assassinate Thorin are omitted, instead some customers in the Prancing Pony (including Albert Dreary stare suspicously at him.
